Beaches

Several beautiful sandy beaches are a short drive away. Achnahaird Bay is the largest, known for its extensive sands and dunes.

Near Lochinver, Achmelvich and Clachtoll are also famous for their pristine white sands and clear turquoise seas. All are perfect for swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding.

Coastal Walks

Discover the rugged coastline with numerous beautiful walks. The historic ‘Postie’s Path’, once the only link to the outside world, is a local highlight.

This dramatic route runs from Strathcanaird to Achiltibuie and is now part of the Scottish National Trail. It can be walked in either direction.

Sea Kayaking

Sea kayaking is a popular way to explore the Summer Isles, offering a unique and peaceful perspective of the landscape.

Kayak Summer Isles offers guided expeditions and courses for all ability levels. Paddle through sheltered bays, discover hidden beaches, and get up close to the local seal colonies.

Wildlife Watching

The area is a haven for wildlife. On the hills, look for red deer, golden eagles, and ptarmigan.

Along the coast, otters and seals are regularly seen, alongside sea eagles. In the summer, the waters are often visited by dolphins, porpoises, minke whales, and even basking sharks.

Boat Trips

Explore the Summer Isles by sea for a new perspective. Summer Isles Sea Tours runs daily wildlife cruises from Badentarbet Pier on the Isabella.

These trips take in magnificent scenery and wildlife, including seals, sea birds, and often dolphins. You will also see the old herring station and sea caves.

Hill Climbing & Walking

The hills of Coigach and Assynt (Stac Pollaidh, Ben Mor Coigach, Suilven) offer endless opportunities. The dramatic ridge of Stac Pollaidh is the most popular, featuring a recently upgraded path.

Ben Mor Coigach, the highest, offers wonderful views over the Summer Isles. These iconic peaks are a must for any walker.

The distinctive sandstone rock formations of the area offer world-class challenges for climbers. The sea cliffs at Reiff are particularly renowned, featuring many varied climbs for all abilities.
